Why Juniors BJJ

What They
Develop

01
🧩
Technical Depth

Juniors BJJ goes beyond basics. Students develop real positional understanding, transitions, and a submission arsenal appropriate for their level and age.

02
🏆
Competition Ready

For kids interested in competing, we build the mental and physical tools needed — tournament preparation, match strategy, and the right mindset.

03
💡
Problem Solving

BJJ is often called physical chess. Juniors learn to think ahead, react under pressure, and find solutions — skills that extend far beyond the mat.

04
🦾
Physical Development

Strength, flexibility, coordination, and endurance all improve through consistent training. Kids in Juniors BJJ are noticeably more athletic than their peers.

05
🧘
Discipline & Focus

The structure of class teaches kids to show up, work hard, and stay focused — even when it's hard. That discipline follows them into school and life.

06
🤜
Self-Defense

By 10+, kids can retain and apply real self-defense techniques. They leave class confident in their ability to protect themselves if they ever need to.

Common
Questions

How is Juniors BJJ different from Little Lions?+
Juniors BJJ is for older kids who are ready for a more structured, technical curriculum. Classes are longer (60 min), the drilling is more intensive, and there is structured live rolling. It's a genuine martial arts education, not just play-based learning.
Does my child need prior BJJ experience?+
No prior experience is required. We have a fundamentals track within the Juniors program that brings new students up to speed before joining the main group. Most kids are rolling comfortably within their first month.
Is competition required?+
Never required. We support students who want to compete and prepare them thoroughly, but those who train for personal development are equally valued and encouraged.
Is live rolling safe for 10-year-olds?+
Yes, when done correctly — and at East LA, it always is. Rolling is always instructor-supervised, limited to age-appropriate techniques, and never forced. Safety and respect on the mat are non-negotiable rules in our program.
★★★★★

"My son started Juniors BJJ at 11 with no experience. Within 6 months he competed in his first tournament and took second place. The coaching here builds real skill, not just participation ribbons. We couldn't be happier."

"Best decision we ever made for our kids. Both are in Juniors and the growth we've seen — not just on the mat but as people — is something you can't put a price on."
